As I have said before I very much agree with John Maxwell when he says, “Leadership is influence; nothing more, nothing less.”

So if you have influence, this makes you a leader.  So how do you obtain or increase your influence and in turn your leadership?

Well, today I am going to give you 5 ways that you can increase your influence in the online marketing arena.

So let’s get right to it.

1) Maintain Impeccable Character

In yesterday’s post I talked about when searching for people for your inner circle, one of the most important characteristics you should seek out is somebody who is character-driven.

So it only makes sense that it should be at the top of the list for how to increase your own influence and leadership capabilities.

If you are character driven, you will work hard to do the things that are appropriate and avoid doing things that are dishonest or shady.  People will start to see that you are a person of character and they will naturally be drawn to you.

2) Develop Your Skills to Excellence

In all you do, do it with excellence.  I am by no means saying that everything needs to be perfect, but you should strive to be the best you possibly can at all times, and make every effort to keep on make yourself better.

If you are willing to invest in making sure all you do is done with excellence, people will see this and be driven to follow you, knowing that you will lead them with excellence as well.

3) Help Others In All That You Do

I am a steadfast believer that to those who give, much is given.  This is not only with money but in time, talent, and resources too. 

For example, if you are given the ability of leadership, you need to be willing to assist others grow in their leadership as well.

People will see this and they will want to follow you because they know you will be willing to invest in them.

4) Be Successful @ What You Do

This is a lot like point number 2; however there is a minor difference.  You can do stuff to excellence and yet not be successful.

For example, take a contractor who decides to construct a house on spec.  They construct the most outstanding house and do it with excellence.  Then, they try to sell the home but they cannot because it is priced much higher compared to surrounding houses because of the extra care they put into building it.

You see, the contractor constructed the home with excellence but was not successful in his project because he neglected to examine every facet of the project.

Followers want to see both excellence and success in everything you do.  But if you aren’t successful, they will lose confidence because they will not be certain whether or not you can lead them to success.

5)Speak Well

Communication is important to every relationship.  So you need to make sure that whenever you are communicating that you do it well.

If you are talking, make sure to speak slowly and pronounce each word clearly so that your message is clear.  Be concise and to the point so that there isn’t confusion in your message.

If you are writing, make sure you follow similar steps so that, again, your message is clear and there is no confusion in your what you are saying.

By following these 5 principles you will start to increase your influence with others dramatically and begin to take your business to a new level!
